With work continuing at pace on site, this week saw the start of the off-site factory testing of the key items of plant with a trip to Finland to test the UPS systems for the first data hall. This involved putting the units through their paces with load and failure scenarios designed to simulate the conditions likely to be encountered in the data centre. It also gave us a chance to prove the efficiency of the units at various load levels to ensure that our predicted PUE calculations were accurate – I am pleased to report that the units performed exactly as specified and are now being fitted with their bespoke coloured panels ready for shipping to the UK next week. In the coming weeks we will also be visiting various places around the UK and the continent to test transformers, cooling units, switchboards and generators to ensure that they are ready in time for incorporation into the project.
