LONDON – 22nd October 2014 – VIRTUS Data Centres Ltd. (VIRTUS), London's flexible and efficient data centre specialist, has launched an art competition, challenging young students and artists to create a work of art conceptualising data centres and colocation, with the winner receiving £2,000 and the runner-up picking up £1,000.

The competition coincides with the launch of VIRTUS’ flagship data centre, LONDON2, where successful competition entries will be displayed. This initiative is designed to support local artists in their development, and engage with a wider audience. Several London-based universities and colleges have already signed up to the initiative, including University College London, University of Westminster and the London College of Fashion.

The competition can be followed on social media by searching for the hashtag #VIRTUSVISUALISE. Once contestants have created their art piece they can upload it on the Art Competition landing page, via Instagram or directly from their computer, where people can then vote for their favourites. The competition is now open with deadline for entries being 14th November, and following the voting process the shortlist will be announced on 25th November.

Venessa Wilson, Marketing Director, VIRTUS Data Centres said: “We’re really excited about this competition. Today’s students are extremely important for our future, so anything we can do to engage with them and communicate the role of the data centre to a broader, more diverse audience, is important for the future development of the industry.  It’s probably somewhat out of the ordinary for the students involved, but hopefully it will inspire other technologists to take a slightly more artistic approach to their work in London, as well as provide the winner with a helping hand in their student finances!”
